The South Beloit Police Department is dedicated to providing professional police services to the South Beloit community. The department is staffed by some of the brightest, most qualified and well-trained police officers in the area. The men and women of this department are sincerely interested in providing the highest level of service possible to the community. Due to the upcoming retirement of our current Chief of Police, the City of South Beloit is seeking a candidate to continue to lead the department’s development and growth!

The City of South Beloit is seeking an innovative and collaborative professional with proven managerial, strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Successful candidates must have an outgoing personality and be approachable and accessible to residents, business and governmental leaders. The successful candidate will have (10) years of experience in police work as a certified officer with a minimum of (5) years of supervisory experience as a Sergeant or higher. An Undergraduate Degree or Master’s Degree is highly desired and/or leadership training such as the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, Southern Police Institute or similar programs.

The Chief of Police oversees and directs all activities of the Police Department for the City of South Beloit. Responsibilities include strategic planning for use of resources, coordinating the activities of the department and ensuring that services provided and development plans are of the highest quality. The Chief of Police is expected to have excellent financial skills, well developed computer and public speaking skills, and the utmost integrity.

The Chief of Police shall be directly responsible to the Mayor and the City Council. The individual appointed by the Commissioner of Health and Safety and the City Council shall have up to (1) year to reside within ten miles from any City boundary.

Salary for this position will be based on the individuals experience and qualifications.
