Family Fun Freshwater Biology at Nature At the Confluence @ Nature At The Confluence
Sep 23 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Come get wet and have fun discovering more about our local streams!

Free Program: Family Fun Freshwater Biology

Nature At The Confluence Stream Team programs empower citizens to be part of restoring and protecting our local waters and regional watershed. NATC Stream Teams will be collecting baseline data multiple times over the summer at Turtle and Kelley Creeks.  You can come once or several times to discover what the data will tell us about health of these waterways.

Spend time together in the creek collecting organisms and identifying critters found under rocks and in leaf packs. See what organisms we can collect with our nets, and use a magnifying glass to inspect them up close. Draw your favorite water bug. What do our observations tell us about the health of the waterways that all come together at the Confluence? What can we do to make these streams an even better place for plants and animals to thrive?

  • Bring waders or boots if you have them, waders will also be provided for use.
  • Stream Study, Macroinvertebrate collection and ID
  • Free program for all ages

Preregistration is required. Please call Welty Environmental Center to register: 608-361-1377, or email info@weltycenter.org

Target Stores Field Trip Grant Writing Party for Teachers @ Nature At The Confluence Campus
Sep 23 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

We are excited to announce that Nature At The Confluence is partnering with Sand Bluff Bird Observatory to host grant writing parties for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers at Nature At The Confluence!

Writing grants can be difficult and, if you’ve never written a grant, intimidating. We want to help support teachers in their application for a Target Stores Field Trip Grant. Target has field trip grants available to pay for transportation, admissions and supplies for field trips. Transportation is a costly part of taking a field trip and our plan is that classes could come to Sand Bluff for a morning program then go to the Nature at the Confluence in South Beloit for an afternoon program. By visiting both locations, the classes would receive a full day of nature based, ecology and conservation education.

Sand Bluff volunteers and Nature At The Confluence will host the grant writing parties, providing information about our organizations including how programming could meet state standards; help with phrasing, brainstorming and other assistance. We are hoping teachers will be able to start and possibly finish a Target Field Trip Grant for the Spring or Fall of 2018 during the session If you would like more information or are interested in attending a grant writing party, please contact Megan Pease (peasemeganm@gmail.com; 608-354-2540) to reserve a spot.
